Anti-Corruption Day 2010
International Anti-Corruption Day, 9 December, raises awareness about the impact of corruption and the role of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in combating and preventing it.
Appropriately, International Anti-Corruption Day comes the day before Human Rights Day. Corruption is increasingly recognised as a major obstacle to the realisation of human rights around the world. The ICHRP has been working to raise awareness of the links between corruption and human rights and to show how human rights principles and tools can strengthen anti-corruption work.
The ICHRP project comes in two parts. Corruption and Human Rights: Making the Connection includes a useful summary of the UNCAC (page 20) and shows how specific acts of corruption can be linked to specific human rights.
Integrating Human Rights in the Anti-Corruption Agenda shows how human rights and anti-corruption practitioners can unite efforts and effectively collaborate in the struggle to root out entrenched corruption.
