Poverty: the relevance of human rights to poverty reduction

Introduction

The Council is preparing a report on the contribution that human rights can make to poverty reduction programmes. Based on research in six countries, this project examines the problems and obstacles that officials face when they implement programmes designed to reduce poverty, and the criticisms made by civil society organisations of those programmes, in order to suggest where adoption of human rights principles and techniques might improve the effectiveness of such programmes.
