ICHRP Corruption report in Armenian available 24 June 2009

The International Council is pleased to announce the translation of its report, Corruption and Human Rights: Making the Connection, into Armenian.

Climate change talks in Bonn 08 June 2009

Friday June 5th was World Environment Day. Although ICHRP is unable to attend the current talks in Bonn to further negotiate the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), we are there in spirit with the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), two of the partners on our climate technology project. New draft - Plural Legal Orders and Human Rights 12 May 2009

The Council has posted a new draft report, titled Plural Legal Orders and Human Rights for comments and review.

The draft report is the result of more than a year’s research, and also draws on an Expert Meeting and two Research Workshops. It explores the challenges and questions posed to human rights policy and advocacy by plural legal orders.

The report begins by mapping legal plurality, the contemporary forces driving it and revisiting debates around law, culture and human rights. Continue

Consultation round on Rights and Responsibilities of Human Rights Organisations 26 January 2009

The Council has posted a new draft report, titled Rights and Responsibilities of Human Rights Organisations.

Prepared by Elizabeth Griffin, the draft takes account of the very different environments in which human rights NGOs operate – from the highly repressive to the quite supportive – and the variety of their scale and organisational form. Continue

Corruption and economic, social and cultural rights 06 December 2008

The International Strategy Meeting on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and ESCR-net General Assembly meeting was held in Nairobi, Kenya on 1-4 December 2008. The event brought together some 200 key human rights, social justice and grassroots’ activists from around the world. The organising body ESCR-net is an international network of human rights organisations from the Americas, Africa and Asia promoting economic, social and cultural rights. Continue

Consultations on plural legal orders 10 November 2008

In October ICHRP held two research workshops to review its research on plural legal orders. The first, on October 17-18, reviewed the project’s analytic framework. The second, on October 31- to November 1, looked at the effectiveness of different policy responses to problems and dilemmas the project has identified. Continue
