60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 19 March 2008

Efforts to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are well under way. « The Elders », formed last year by Nelson Mandela and Graça Machel, have launched the « Every Human has Rights » Initiative which calls on every person to make a personal pledge to live by the principles of the Declaration. Mary Robinson, a Member of the International Council, is one of the Elders. The initiative already has the support of her organisation, Realizing Rights, as well as Amnesty International, Action Aid, the Center for Women’s Global Leadership, Civicus, the Global Call to Action Against Poverty, Save the Children, Unicef, Club de Madrid, the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect and International Pen.
